They need to revisit 2010 with a special edition to modernize the effects so it works between 2001 and Interstellar.

it has the best rendition of AI and an alien, but it thinks too highly of itself and takes forever to get to the point. Would have been more tolerable as a 4 part mini-series rather than a movie.

yeah. As a studio head I would have ripped that plot out and made Stanley make a movie out of that, and if it did well I'll let him make the rest of it.

I once asked my father a long time ago what was happening to David when he goes through the time warp.

He said something like
>Imagine you meet God, but you can't understand what he is telling you and how terrified you would be
and that part scared me for a long time.

Hot take: it isn't great. The space stuff is neat, but everything else about it is shit, especially the ending. Anything it was trying to say could have definitely been said better, and if it wasn't for the special effects the whole thing would have been written off as pretentious wank, which it kind of is.

2001 is one of the most boring movies of all time. 2001 is basically what happens when you take a picture in paint and drag the entire image out diagonally until it becomes stretched and ugly

It's technically very well made but it's long and uneventful in places. It's also a bit too far up its own ass. I know this is an unpopular opinion here but I still consider The Shining to be Kubrick's best film even after giving 2001 multiple chances, but it's certainly not a bad film either.

No, Spartacus is the furthest I've gone back in Kubrick's filmography since it's very hard to find any of his movies from the 1950s but maybe someday.
