Deep impact has the better impact scene. Armageddon is a snooze fest. Melodrama bore fest when they are crying and screaming on the asteroid.

Deep Impact is the better film, but it's also a bit dry and doesn't have Prime Liv Tyler or that Aerosmith song

Passenger 57
Executive Decision
Terminal Velocity
Air Force One
Turbulence
Con Air

Airplane action movies were a mini genre of their own in the 90s

armageddon. it's far tighter, way better cast and effects and has much higher highs than deep impact. DI has the asteroid impact and the giant wave scene but nothing comes close to bruce willis sacrificing himself for ben affleck

>we can't remote detonate somebody is gonna have to stay behind
>okay were clear.... why hasn't he detonated yet, come on man... okay he's not gonna make it, prepare to remote detonate!

>Armageddon is a snooze fest.
Armageddon is really just a series of cool looking scenes with not much coherence.

they can't remote detonate at that point, that's why the moment is so huge. you're thinking of the scene earlier where NASA thinks they can't make the needed drill depth so they attempt to remote detonate before they lose the ability to communicate with the mission.

Bruce Joel Rubin pitched the movie "Deep Impact" to Disney and they turned it down, so he went to Paramount and they decided to make it. Then later that summer, Disney released "Armageddon".
