If the Empire finds me or baby Luke, they'll kill us both! Probably a good idea, then, if he goes by "Skywalker" and I'll go by "Kenobi".

Anakin was told that both Padme and her child died. He didn't know that there were twins, and that they lived. This is why he gets all excited when he finds out Luke isn't the only option for a sith apprentice (because he has "a sisteeeerrrrrr").

Skywalker is a (reasonably) common name among humans on Tattoine. Vader hated the planet andnhad no reason to go back. The Hutts ruled most of it and the Empire barely had a presence.

Was it the best idea ever? No. But it wasn't terrible.

In one of the earlier books they explain jedi names and their adjacency to witchery. The names have specific powers in their vocalizations and skywalker is one such name. It sounds different when spoken to different people. So Luke would be safe from it being identified.

>Skywalker is a (reasonably) common name among humans on Tattoine

That's just a retcon to excuse a stupid idea. Lucas should've just said Luke's father was Anakin Snafu and nobody would've bat an eye. Same goes for the moronic idea to have the Jedi dress like Obi-Wan's clothing from A New Hope, since in hindsight his wardrobe was clearly an attempt to blend in with desert people on Tatooine rather than not giving up his old Jedi robes.

The issue is he literally gives Luke to his step family, which Anakin himself had met and knows about. His mother is buried next to their house. Even if he doesn't know Luke exists, those are people with a personal connection to him and he might very well come around there in the future.

Yoda had similar robes and Anakin wore the same ones at the end of ROTJ already. You could argue these can be explained otherwise, like with Anakin presumably having lived on Tatooine as well, but ROTJ having 3 Jedi on screen simultaneously with robes is what really established it.

That's not remotely what that was, jedi minds can just interpret their Truename from any given words. Skywalker was called Jvülekkin in Tatooine and other names like Morl Torvo in Dagoba. But jedi minds parse them all into their force name.

While the true answer is that Lucas is retarded, I think it would have been fine if Kenobi decided that Anakin would do all in his power to never return to that place and that was the reasoning.

The real reason is of course that Lukes connection to Vader is an Empire Strikes back retcon

>Yoda had similar robes
No anon, that's a false memory. Yoda wore rags that had no resemblance to Kenobi's outfit.
Anakin ghost does literally just wear the same outbit as Kenobi in exile though, you're right about that. Stupid decision.

Come on now, they're not that stylistically different, just small and withered. Insofar as there's a pattern it doesn't visibly break it.

Vader HATES Tatooine. It's a very traumatic place for him. He would never go back no matter what after burying his mother. Obi Wan knows this.

Exactly. As the audience we hear the name "Skywalker", but in-universe all the people on Tatooine hear "Luke Tuflahkee".

Kenobi's outfit is a brown shirt under a white bathrobe with a leather belt, worn under a brown cloak or hooded dustcoat or something

Yoda's outfit is a grey towel.

I really don't think these two outfits resemble each other or were ever meant to. I think they just wanted yoda to look raggedy because we're supposed to think he's a homeless crazy person before the reveal.

Yeah, I don't think they were expecting her adoptive family to get involved in, or allow Leia to get involved in the Resistance. Considering the Resistance didn't exist at that point, and all.
