>r/movies hyped this to be the grossest movie of the year with body horror that makes you want to leave the theater
>watch it and it was tame as fuck with effects that look fake as fuck

What's wrong with people? This shit looked so dumb, why did people seriously think it was gory and explicit.

Reddit is deathly afraid of naked ladies.
It's the same relationship that jannies have with cute girls.

The Substance is good movie, but has way more in common with horror movies that are essentially just particularly off-putting comedies than actual horror. A lot of people I know watched it and most everyone liked it enough, most common feedback was that it was 30 minutes too long which I agree with.
I could see you actually getting scared at the movie if you're like 12 though so maybe that's why redditors were afraid of it.

Normies have never seen an unabashed body horror film before, much less one that reaches the absurd levels of a Stuart Gordon movie. I wasn't shocked and awed but I was grinning like a dipshit for the last half hour and laughing a lot. It feels good to be pandered to in current year.

I love Dennis Quaid so much. I know they made him play a cartoon character sleazeball but he's so goddamn charming, I was still always happy to see him onscreen. His presence elevated the movie for me.

reddit people who thought it was peak realism body horror genuinely missed the point. The big monster thing at the end looks fake and is meant to break immersion. Same with all the references.
