I agree that Scream 1-4 are very good. But do you think that the series' standing is hurt by what came after? Scream 5 is an absolutely terrible movie and so bad that I promised to never watch another Scream movie. And some people say 6 is actually worse.

Halloween (1978) is the only slasher film that can be called a masterpiece (unless you count Psycho as a slasher. The first Texas Chainsaw may qualify too). Michael Myers is also the scariest slasher villain. But Scream is the most consistent franchise. Six films and none of them are truly bad

Literally every movie made in the past 15 years has looked like that. That's a problem with the industry as a whole, it's weird to pick on Scream 5 specifically

It had some fun things. The opening scene was great. Ghostface in general was good (lots of great lines, lots of great kills). Honestly, that's my main concern with a slasher movie. How cool the slasher himself is. Halloween Kills is otherwise a terrible movie, but I still enjoy it because Michael is great in it. It's a lowbrow genre

Yes, movies look worse now but that doesn't absolve Scream 5. It's a particularly terrible looking movie and it lacks visual continuity with the previous four, which are nice and fun looking movies. Saying that all movies over the last 15 years look like shit is an overstatement. The same guys directed Ready or Not also did Scream 5, and Ready or Not was a nice looking movie. You can blame it on covid or the industry or bla bla bla but at the end of the day it's just a terrible looking movie.

In terms of design, mask, costume, presence, personally I would pick Michael. In terms of being "iconic" aka recognizable, objectively that would probably be Jason, he's kind of synonymous with slasher.

It'll always be Michael for me but I'm a John Carpenter mark and I think Halloween 2 is one of the greatest sequels ever. The autumn vibes in those later sequels is max comfy too. I'd give Jason the runnerup spot though because he literally dindunuffin. I've never been a big fan of Freddy though. Too much joking around for my taste.
