>>211401720There was a whole quirked up white people genre back then, but it predated Napoleon Dynamite and went after it. This movie was simply part of that trend, but it differed in that it had broad pop culture appeal and it leaned into being silly and fun more so than being moody and tragicomedy like most other movies in that genre did.
It was basically a rural, small town working class take on a more suburban/urban upper middle class genre of film. It was also genuinely quirky instead of trying to be quirky. Napoleon is unapologetically the way he is as a character and isnt trying to impress anyone with how he acts compared to a lot of other characters in this genre who feel like their putting on a sort of Holden Caulfield act to seem mysterious and/or cool.
