what makes it so damn good?

Rowan Atkinson being a very good actor in terms of facial and body movement in a character that doesn't talk much. It is also pretty British in terms of 'make do' attitude.

Rowan Atkinson. He's an exceptional physical comedian and is able to convey everything through facial expressions or gesture. The show was written around scenarios that could take full advantage of his talents. I know he also co-wrote Blackadder, which is fantastic, but when I think of Atkinson I will always think of Bean first.
