>Jurassic World: $110m OW
>Superman: $155m OW
>Fantastic Four: $120m OW
The early data for these movies is completely shocking me, I would have figured Jurassic>Superman>FF
What's turning people off about Jurassic so much? Poor quality, too long ago for a sequel, or a mom as the lead?

Every jurassic film box office went down after every release. Dominion barely made 1 billion and got lucky with a rerelease to hit it.

If Universal doesn't reinvent and this film seems more of the same, then if they keep pumping out more we will get to level of Fast X box office bad.

All of the numbers are based on ticket sales, tickets have gone on sale for movies about a month out for many years now so there's a really well established relationship between tickets sold per day since first sale and opening weekend. They're generally accurate within $10m minus absolute shocks like Joker 2

It's a movie made for people who talk about these movies on the internet instead of the families who bring their kids to them. Every Gareth Edwards movie is like that, I'm positive he spends five hours a day on Reddit.
I'll probably like it but yeah it isn't making what Universal hoped for.

Live action Lilo and Stitch was "predicted" to make half of what it ended up with.
Man of Steel started preselling a year out, and was projected to to well past a billion.

You do realize that they aren't actually selling $155 million dollars worth of Superman pre-ticket sales right? The theaters are only selling a much smaller amount.

The studios are making a guess based on the idea that ticket sales will maintain the same momentum as pre-ticket sales. Which is a complete guess without evidence.

Thatโ€™s why each one of these movies are being made, retard. You think some auteur had a vision and wanted to cast Pedro Pascal and Scarjo as these compelling characters in a great story? They do, and studios love international gross, but they make a way smaller cut of it than they do for domestic gross so it isn't as high of a priority. Especially when you can have a Shang Chi incident where a movie is made to sell in China then China just bans it and refuses to elaborate

Jurassic has the safest floor, it'll get to 600m no matter what

Superman with good reviews could be big but I think it has the lowest ceiling of the 3. Bad reviews and this thing will tank completely too

Fantastic 4 would scare the shit out of me if I was Marvel. Little known director, Pedro has never opened a big movie and the cast around him is weak. Not to mention Marvel being on a big cold streak and Fantastic 4 not being a safe bet to print money like X-men. Fantastic 4 has the lowest floor, it could really flop with bad reviews and word of mouth.

Itโ€™s genuinely the only movie with actual buzz, F4 is mostly about girl surfer, m she u, Pedro is in literally every movie. Superman buzz is all about how each scene in the trailer is edgy or funny and if it will suck or be good or not. You want people discussing the movie not the stuff outside of it. Nobody cares about Jurassic really online and 28 Years Later is for nerds.

F1 is underrated imo I see positive vibes around than all the time how itโ€™s going to be good and brad Pitt looks hot.

Superman having a good opening weekend has never been the issue. A good second weekend has been. It was a smarty move by Gunn to make this look family friendly because those movies are one ones consistently making money. It has no competition is second weekend so no built in excuse for a bad drop off

>What's turning people off about Jurassic so much? Poor quality, too long ago for a sequel, or a mom as the lead?
The Jurassic movies have always been soft domestic and better overseas. The IP has been milked pretty constantly for the last decade, people haven't gone long without a new dino movie. Scarjo is over 40 and Mahershala is over 50. Compare that to Pratt and BDH who were both in their early 30s for Jurassic World.

The more movies you star in in a franchise, the more money you get. So Chris Pratt might only get $5mil for the first Jurassic movie, but he can be making 20 million for the 3rd movie and even more from a 4th. Its a lot cheaper for a studio to just reset and cast a new comparatively cheaper lead
