I live in Vancouver and sometimes do work as an extra on weekends for beer money.

It's really boring with having to stand around for hours at a time, but you get to meet new people. Especially when you are forced to have a pretend conversation with another extra.

Talent almost never interacts with the extras off camera. The rare one will wave or yell thanks at the end of the day.

I work as a producer for a small kids show with a relatively big name celebrity attached. It's alright. The exec producer is kind of a retard though.

Haven't worked on film in like a decade+
Everything takes forever, scenes takes literally fucking hours to shoot, like 5 minute scene is probably 4-5 hours minimum if you are rushing it. No idea how shows like Star Trek or Days of Our Lives cranked out episodes in like 24 hours.

Shooting is extremely slow and tedious. It’s really boring work making a movie and then the edit is even worse. Only the director is having fun if that.

Yes. I worked in film for 10 years. I quit 4 years ago and got a day job. I'm so much happier.

Film shoots lasted 16 to 18 hours a day on average. The people in charge tried to squeeze the crew for everything they had until they were near exhaustion and sleep deprived. Then they want the crew back 10 hours later. So barely any time to do anything after work. Also the schedule is a mess. You might work for 4 weeks straight and then get a month off. It's so stupid.

I have never seen such an industry like this before. Not even working in a factory lasts this long.

Now I work 8 hour days and have plenty of time to myself after work. Life is so much better and less stressful.

Movies just have these silly tropes we all get used to

I work for a small stop motion studio, we do commercials, credit sequences and we are going to work on our first music video next semester. I'm assistant director, I'm the one the director blames first when something goes wrong and the one the crew complains to when they are not happy with direction. It's madness, I'm not sure the company is a model of how it works in other places, but we would often work to 2am and if something went wrong last minute, we would lose several hours of shooting.

Its a fucking nuthouse, it's like prison, everyone is raping everyone all the time. The director says something an actor doesnt like, actor rapes him later in his trailer. Actor disobeys the directors orders or talks back, the crew holds him down and the director rapes him. Squeamish about rape and the others notice it? You're fucked, literally. Whenever someone on set farts everyone can hear it because it sounds like blowing on a glass bottle
