Now that I think about it, none of the Indian clerks I've interacted with at Dunkin Donuts, 7-Eleven, delis, etc. speak with the broken accent you associate with Indians online. They have thick accents and can be frustrating but you never hear phrases like sar or do the needful out loud. I wonder if it's a generational or caste thing, or if there's something about written language that is significantly different from spoken language.
