The academy awards are still based. It's just viewership has gone down along the same rate movie attendance is down. Movies is becoming more of a niche hobby, and that's a good thing.

All of the good HP movies had to compete with LotR and then the rest were Twilight tier slop

The LOTR movies are decent fun but the books are dreadfully dry. I can't imagine enjoying them as leisure unless you're a stoner or just can't get enough of genealogies and bad poetry.

what would they have won an Oscar for? they are spectacular films about magic, yet they very rarely have interesting special effects (the Knight Bus, that's the only one i remember).

First HP lost best art direction to some ugly stage show movie "Moulin Rouge".

Production design. The first one was nominated but it was alongside LOTR and they both lost to Moulin Rouge.

yeah the music was great, i'll grant you.

however, only Philosopher's Stone and Prisoner of Azkaban were nominated (which makes sense, they had the best scores).
lost to The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Finding Neverland, respectively.

hp is the work of a competent plagiarist, it declines hard after the first book.

Mahvel and LOTR don't have any hard-hitting emotional beats that the last three HP films had.

Franchise culture is a disease. Those who manufacture it and those who feast on it deserve to be rounded up, stripped of identity, and executed in public squares as a warning to whatever remains of human taste.

Lots of Marvel "slop" actually deserved oscars. They were genuinely well made movies with compelling stories at some point. Infinity War and Endgame deserved best picture more than whatever won those years.

serious question, which ones had compelling stories:
i liked the first Iron Man, real world war, guy builds his suit, what's this going to mean for the world?
also liked Civil War because that's actually an interesting question (turned into punching, which was a let-down).

there's nothing compelling. they don't even stories. they have vidya quests for the characters to go on.
