It's not. It's not a complete movie nor story. It poses a bunch of questions and mysteries then doesn't answer any of them. The sequel could have subsequently raised Promtheus' rating by answering stuff, but it didn't and instead veered hard right into another direction. Which just leaves Prometheus as a low rated disappointed. Looks pretty though.

They seem to have lost whatever magic they used to have when making characters. Old characters could have a couple lines and a couple minutes screen time then be remembered fondly for decades. New characters can go all out with costumes, take up way too much screen time, yet still be unmemorable or get the opposite reaction by being downright despised.
