>guy who made The Brutalist (nominated for 10 Oscars) made zero dollars from the film and is flat broke
>guy who made Anora (Best Picture Winner) can't even afford rent and won't have kids because it's too expensive

What the FUCK is happening to Hollywood?!

Pretending to be broke is standard for people in the arts. They're all trust fund babbies, how do you think they afforded rent up until now?

You don't get any money for those awards and they've lost their prestige. There was a time that people might check out a movie on DVD because it won the Oscar but that market is completely gone along with any respect for the award.

Both films were commercial successes. But current contracts fuck over the director when it comes to royalties.

I can buy The Brutalist guy being broke because he's only had one really successful movie, but if Sean Baker can't afford rent at this point he must be signing the worst contracts known to man or he is just awful with money.

I point this out time and time again that since it's standard in contracts for actors and directors to get a share of the profits the studios inflate the cost of films so the film comes out as a loss on paper this isn't new and happened to Peter Jackson with New Line Cinema despite the LotR trilogy making over $3 billion at the box office one trick they do is for producers to loan the studio(themselves) money to make the film at very high interest rates

Or you make merch deals which doesn't seem to be a thing anymore.
Jaws and Jurassic park made its money on merch, not tickets.

Pretty much.
Being an actor is for nep babies, government plants, kikes, and litteral slaves.

Everyone else has retreated to social media and are all rallying the wagons around streaming shows they can turn into long term tv shows.

The academy gifts you a goodie bag worth like 200k if you win an award. I don't understand why there's no option to demand a cash equivalent. This is insane spending honestly

All of that stuff is donated by the companies for functionally free advertising to celebrity clientele so they can claim celebs use their stuff or rope them into marketing deals. The cannabis products there are funny because they all come from the same parent company and are absolutely not worth any of the listed prices, those margins would be disgusting in California let alone anywhere else that sells them.

This is nothing new. Directors rarely make any money directly from directing films. They mostly make money in other investments that they can make because they are big names. James Cameron made nothing from Titanic although that was partly due to him giving up his directing fee due to being behind schedule when filming but it still stands that he made no money off the film despite it being hugely profitable

I am sick of hearing "cant afford kids"

People have been having kids in poverty for thousands of years, through the great depression, WW1, etc

These people are why the white race is dying. "hurr durrr i cant afford kids"
