Being completely amoral is fine. You can have a protagonist be a mass murderer and that's considered acceptable, but if that mass murderer said a racial slur at the person they're murdering then that makes them something worse than 'bad', it makes them apostates.
Same reason that to the average normie communist dictators aren't considered that bad, unlike fascist ones, because communist dictators 'weren't racist' when they were murdering millions of people.
