The lighting didn't do that. Palpatine's use of the dark side did. He was wearing a force glamour to hide his face. He was finally able to reveal his true form during the Windu fight. Why did Palpatine come back to try and overthrow the galaxy via the First Order instead of doing exactly what he did the first time by using the First Order as a threat to democracy and slowly eroding civil liberties from his manufactured threat? Not even a chosen one or jedi temple to stop him either, and the galaxy thinks he's dead and the sith are gone. It's literally the exact setup he would want as he can manipulate minds in a galaxy full of non-force users

Rian Johnson fucked it all up. Force Awakens was a pretty bad film, but there was at least a setup for a trilogy there. You had mystery and conflict. Last Jedi threw out the entire setup.
