Meh, I got through a couple of seasons but thought it was pretty average. I really fucking hate how they make Red John cartoonishly omnipotent, completely kills the tension. The procedural stuff is better but drama-wise it just feels like an inferior House.

If they wrapped up his story in s2 or even s3, continuing a post RJ story wouldn't have been a problem.

not really, it makes sense seeing as the show is really about Jane and his life, not specifically about the RJ case
the last season could've been fine if it actually focused on that, but it tried to be a pseudo-reboot with a bunch of new characters and that was weird

Really nice how the main character is very intelligent, perceptive, wise, empathetic and all these things but the moment things hit the fan he's out of the room.

They should have developed the Red John character a little more after his identity was revealed. If they had spent a season with Jane searching for him after finding out who he was, the ending would have been better.
Also, Cho was the best character.

It really is a good background show, although I think a good chunk of the "quirky consultant-detective" shows that were popular in the 00's and 10's become good background after watching once. Monk, Psych, and Mentalist probably being the most popular. I never got into the other ones like Bones or whatever else.
