>>211470250 (OP) Chill out faggot itโs at worst a 7/10. Would have been a 10/10 if only he acknowledged himi was his mom the second she made the jelly bread and had a tearful reunion.
Thatโs literally all that was missing.

its about the next generation not taking over, which i think is hackazaki crying that he didnt properly train his successor(s). thats the only interesting part about it next to the animation. feels like a lot of retreading other ideas though. 6/10
>Think the movie is about Miyazaki >Like, dealing with his mom dying in the fire bombings of WWII >Seems totally obvious to me walking out of the movie >Look it up >His mom died in the 80s when she was 72
>>211470250 (OP) It's about Japan's trauma is a source of art that Miyazaki wanted to use to change Japan, but it turns out that he's cool with just letting families have a good time at his films and doesn't need to heal their trauma and cause them to transcend capitalism wit his art.

>>211470250 (OP) >looks old as shit like it came out 20 years ago >nothing really memorable >no good music Took my mom to see it in theaters after she watched Howl's and both of us were like uhhh yeah that sucked
>>211476508 Howl is fucking awful. Legitimately first draft script writing, with a "grrrr, I am SO mad about the Iraq war, I'm gonna disrupt this entire movie to bitch about it," scattershot plot.
>>211470250 (OP) one of the most pretentious movies I have ever had the displeasure of watching in theater. maybe only rivaled by that green knight movie with the pajeet. I remember going on /tv/ that night and seeing threads praising it for being a masterpiece. lmfao
>>211470250 (OP) It's a visual masterpiece but complete nonsense story-wise, even by Miyazaki standards. You can kind of tell what he's going for but there's not enough room to tell it in, leading to the entire thing feeling muddled and rushed.
>>211470250 (OP) It's an interesting fantastical autobiography on Miyazaki's life but I don't think the first half and second half flow together very smoothly.
>>211474728 I do wonder at what point did he finally realized he drove away everyone who could have really carried the studio after him. His son is the most famous example but pretty everyone admits he is extremely difficult to work with.
I hated that mid-2010s trend where women would buzz off the sides of their heads and give themselves fauxhawks. Poor taste.

>>211474728 >its about the next generation not taking over You mean the fact that he rejects the old man's offer to take up the responsibility of the tower? It seemed like the tower was depicted as a bad thing though. What was he offering? The top of the tower is like a paradise where he can have anything he imagines?
>>211482812 >The top of the tower is like a paradise where he can have anything he imagines? exactly. the top of your body, your head, can create anything basically. in fact, it created everything around you

>>211482123 it really doesnt matter that much, these movies have inspired generations of artists to come by being so fantastical. the job is done.
Kino meditative and creepy first hour, then it falls apart when the usual Ghibli nonsense shows up (those white bubbly things and talking parakeets) and the heron turns into a whacky semitic dwarf. The kino spirit is briefly recaptured in the birthing room scene and in the scenes with the fire girl
>>211487817 this is true, but there was always something unique about them. this one felt like a smorgasbord and nothing really gels into a singular entity. he wasnt even supposed to make another one, right? this was more like a surprise announcement if i recall.
>wife died >lol I am gonna immediately marry her sister and impregnate her womb What the fuck was wrong with the boy's father? No wonder he was a nazi supporter.
What's wrong with Japs and using other people's want to go off on their own as an excuse to produce narcissistic crap insulting them? >inb4 >>>/v/ This shit ain't video games. Final Fantasy is and will always be the original moviegame franchise. pic related, this abortion-tier project only finally came about because the three original designers/producers are old (and borderline demented, judging by the quality of Remake/Rebirth) and didn't want "anybody else" to touch their game and believe they were chosen by God, which is ironic considering they've been shilling spinoffs and merchandise to rival George Lucas since before even the Prequel Trilogy.

It's okay, it's not terribly coherent.
Makes the most sense as a companion piece to Spirited Away, but doesn't build up enough character and virtue in the protagonist for us to really be invested in his journey.

This movie was pure kino until the third act when it turned into Japanese redditor tales

are a pretty accurate assessment of the the man, the studio, the legacy and the flaws of those things which are exposed in the film
