In 10 years, nobody will reference the 2010s-2020s. Why? Because there's no more shared cultural experience. There's thousands of shows out there, almost all for a tiny fringe audience. Nobody watches TV anymore or goes to the cinema. Everybody streams. So there's really nothing you could talk about with your school friends or colleagues. It doesn't help either that scripts these days are utter shit and stories forgettable. They just string action scenes together and edit it so that so much stuff happens so quickly, your brain fails to process what happens and also doesn't trip over the dozens of plotholes. Example: I could tell you what happend in "A New Hope" after watching it, but I couldn't do the same with "The Rise of Skywalker".
>>211482320 comedy stopped in about 2012 after 21 Jump Street came out. everything before that was from the Age of Vulgarity (Idiocracy, Team America, Dodgeball etc.) so couldn't really be referenced without constant "Yikes... this did NOT age well..." cutaways
>>211485396 There is though? Most zoomers played Minecraft, most zoomers have watched Mr Beast, most zoomers listened to Billie Eilish, most zoomers use a mix of black, LGBT, and incel slang >Everybody streams Yeah, the same stuff. Most zoomers saw Stranger Things, Squid Game, and Wednesday
Even the past era you're comparing to had heaps off nonconformists, oddballs, and weirdos.
>>211485739 Yes, but that's not shared culture like "Encounters of the 3rd Kind" or "Jaws" or something that was watched by more than just the young generation. All the stuff you quoted is exclusive to zoomers only. That's not shared culture, that's shared subculture.
>>211485844 Not sure about that, ST and Squid Game are absolutely huge. My mom watched both and Wednesday.
Music is different but pretty sure that's always been subcultural. Same with slang.

I feel like references to zoomer shit will always be labelled as "cringe" by both zoomers and old people alike, so people tend to either avoid that by referencing something older than zoomers, or trying it anyways and faking the backlash. When was the last time you saw something reference a modern thing or event and weren't immediately turned off by it?
