Celebrated writers tended to be inspired by the lives they lead or by tales of the classics. They were generally well read and wordly, so they had the multifaceted grasp on society that you need in order to write three dimensional characters and stories that resonate with normal people.
Current writers live in an echo chamber, which is bad enough, but a problem that could be alleviated by them actually reading/watching good stories and getting a grasp of humanity by proxy. But they don't.
Instead, they can be counted on to have only consumed children's media outside what was forced on them in english lessons, and even that is to facilitate their main passion of fanfiction.
The truly staggering part is that these are the people counted on to spread propaganda.
Why they haven't been ousted to let old school people who could actually write entertaining propaganda back in is beyond me.
