Because the producers will hire their cousin's consultancy firm to screen special effects houses and negotiate a contract with them, they will get a cut of the fee they were paid, and there's no pressure involved for the studio because the special effects house will have to deliver it on time and under budget or else they will get sued. They don't give a fuck about quality.
It's indicative of a studio system that doesn't care about producing a quality product and will only do something if they are able to line their own pockets in the process.

It's easier to control the means of production with CGI.
Bigger talent pool to draw from.

Because you can reshoot CGI from scratch after production has finished and it doesn't require you to bring back any of the actors.

The short explanation is the studio exects are all controll freaks. The idea is that using CGI let's them rewrite, edit, cut, or change almost anything in the movie, even a month before release. Using practical props, costumes, and sets locks them into that box, and they fucking hate that. Modern studios are taking this shit to such an insane extreme, that they will film half of a $100mil production before they even have a script.

Cameron isn't jewish and Avatar and especially The Way of Water are two of the best looking, most immersive movies ever made.

It is simpler to hire an office building full of jeets to turn the garbage footage you lazily shot in front of a greenscreen into a movie than it is to put in the effort needed to make a good movie the way they used to be made.
