I mean yeah, there's no reason to feel ashamed for being content with what you have. Working to live is a perfectly respectable position to take.

Not everyone can be a revolutionary thinker who changes the world. Some people's capabilities might max out at cleaning toilets, which is fine and not anything to be ashamed about.
It's actually a very important role. Without sanitary toilets, things can get real bad real fast. I've got various medical issues that cause me to need to use a toilet more than most people, so I'm especially appreciative of the people who clean them.

what is it you think there is to do on this planet? how many times can you spend your vacation money on jet ski rentals before you realize that we're really just killing time here? if you have a job, you're doing something with your life.

He went to the onsen regularly
People at the small restaurant liked him
People at the bar liked him too and they'd chat in a relaxed way
He was seen as attractive (by the shy girl and the park and the bar owner) and fatherly (his niece/his coworker's gf) by women
So he had friends, younger ppl who looked up to him and intimate alternatives (that is, the 2 women which were sexual/romantic prospects) as well as good social skills since all of these people saw him as likable

They have different cultures, Japan was heavily influenced by buddhism, while America is huge on the protestant work ethic. It's interesting to see how big a divide culture creates in the perception of the same phenomina. I think burgers (and westerners in general) are shocked that a society doesn't need to copy them in order to obtain the same quality of life/development.

What's with the uptick in discussions about this movie? It's rare for people here to talk about festival circuit flicks. Did this one strike a chord with lonely men here?

if this came out even 10 years ago it would have been lost in the shuffle

The cruelest liberal impulse is the idea that everyone can be an astronaut/whatever they want. Itโ€™s just not the case. But everyone can be happy. Thatโ€™s a different problem.

>the same quality of life/development
It's time to stop this weeb meme. Maybe at a peak of it's development in the eighties, life of an average japanese could be compared to some amerimutt, but that's it. They never had the same quality of life as majority of Western and North Europe.

>japan has a long history of artisans and craft men's
Which is absolutely hollow bullshit serving you "the experience". Pointless exercises with no superior quality, just the obsession with perceived status. There's a reason why Jiro became a meme.
>which still exist today
Solely because of said modernisation and industrialization brought about by the West. Pure marketing propagated by retards like you chugging TikToks.
>while Europeans and Americans and other Anglo countries are in industrial decline
They are in decline because they offshored their industry to their colonies.
