What are some painfully unfunny "comedies"?
It was a showcase for special effects, and novel, so entertaining, at the time. It is nothing besides.
It's literally:
>look, intenrational audiences, we can now make cartoons, like the classic wb looney tunes, REAL! isn't that something? pay us billions of dollars to witness it.
anything with Will Ferrell in it
>>211507387That's not fair, but what is fair, is that comedy is the lowest form of art to begin with. There is not much you can do with it.
Doug’s idea is better

>>211507425>There is not much you can do with itWithout exaggeration, the worst opinion I've read on /tv/ all year.
>>211507861A litany of high-brow comedies is to follow, I'm sure.
In ancient Greece, comedy just meant a story with a happy ending. Not belly laughs and fart jokes. Jokes are fine in an everyday setting, but they are not art nor theater nor literature.
>>211508562Dumb and Dumber is high art.
>>211507169 (OP)This is the best "funny" Carrey movie.
99% of American sit"com"s
The Simpsons was good any time Conan O'Brien wrote an episode.
>>211509090Out of all the most popular ones I only found Always Sunny to be funny

>>211507169 (OP)The funniest Jim Carrey film is Ace Ventura 2.
>>211508846he controls that room, what a guy!
>>211507169 (OP)The Mask was insanely kino, probably my most watched film as a child on VHS next to Mortal Kombat. I watched it with my 8-year-old son last year and he was even still quoting some of its one-liners days later.
>>211512784It's a great movie. It's goofy but perfect.
>>211507169 (OP)Those 80s SNL ones.
Trading Places, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Vacation etc.
They were the prototype of Adam Sandler/Will Ferrel movies that were to come a decade or 2 later.

>>211508846how do I get confidence like this?
>>211507303They already did that a decade prior, zoomie. This was just a character rewritten specifically for Jim Carrey during his peak. It never would've happened if they couldn't get him to star.
>>211507169 (OP)Pretty much ANY of the improv comedy that was done on the wake of 40 Year Old Virgin (which is actually pretty funny)
This cringy shit was labelled a comedy for some reason. Do I have to be a jewish boomer to get it?
>>211507616I like that idea too... I hate how Hollywood turned these dark edgy indy/underground comic IP into cartoons..... same with TMNT....
A true to the source Mask would be kino AF
>>211507387Started to die after Anchorman2, but most movies were funny. Ghostbusters fem ruined comedy forever
>>211508982Is that the scene where he gets smashed in the head and then killed with a paddle?
