Is one billion in play for Superman?
Based on pre sales it's opening the best of any July movie, and possibly the best domestic opening of the year. The big thing holding it back from a billion would be how unpopular Superman is in China.

Sure, but the 3rd barely made a billion and thats with a re-release with some extended footage. It was very close to not make a billy without that re-release.

Each film since the 2015's jurassic world went down box office wise, look at how fast and furious went down with each film after 8 and fast x flopped hard, that's why it takes them so much time to make fast 11, they fucked up.

A better example, look at Transformers, the 4th made 1 billy and the last knight flopped so hard it killed the brand for good. Only Bumblebee made a profit during that time and they learned nothing from it.

I'm not saying Superman will be a hit, but don't be surprised if the new jurassic world doesn't make a billion.

Lilo and Stitch might have hit the wall. It's at $858 million and $150 million more from here could be a stretch at over 3 weeks into its run and competition like Dragon, Elio and Smurfs that will cut into its share.

You type of fags are the worst. The ones that unironically believe Snyder damaged the character and a new movie is needed to correct it. Everybody seems to forget why Man of Steel was made in the first place. Despite being the face of superheroes Superman is fucking boring. Homelander and Omniman actually bring an interesting angle to the archetype, hell even Sentry in TB. What’s funny is the only thing that truly separates Cavill’s Superman from regular old Superman is the lack of underwear.

Not a chance in hell. It does a bombastic opening weekend out of the public's curiosity and because of the overindulgent marketing shoved down their throats but then people realize it's just another late-stage superhero movie when the genre has already died and it offers nothing new or exciting and they go back to wanting stuff like Joker or The Dark Knight.

That's how the pendulum always swings. You get dark and gritty, people want light stuff again. They get the light and fun stuff again and they want to go back to dark and gritty.

It caps at 500 million. It will have a disastrous drop-off on the second weekend and limp to there. Then, Zazlav panics the fuck out and dissolves DC Studios, fires Gunn and then just greenlights 10 Joker-like films to see what sticks. You can almost certainly picture this.

I understand why they tried their hand at another DCU now that Marvel is dead (thinking they can usurp them) but it's a failed experiment too little, too late. DC should just go back to the model that made TDK trilogy, Joker and Watchmen.

Every single normal and outgoing person I've talked to loves Man of Steel and Henry Cavill as Superman. Even casual fans of DC. The deeper you go into the pit of hell that is social media and terminally internet addicted people, the more opinion sours. There's really something to be said about echo chambers and how they legitimately wrap reality in the minds of the people in it.

Returns lack of action was a problem for it, but I don't think anyone complained about him being too nice in it. The complaints I were more about wanking the first two movies too much and cuck plot.
MoS felt like an overcorrection in the other direction.

You’d need the original pieces that produces kino in the first place. Larry Fong, Nolan producing, etc. While staying true to the Evangelion Anti-Christ themed concept. A 7th JL is also important IMO. The Snyder Cut was probably a solid 6/10. Some changes could easily bump it up to a 8/10. But to be on the same 9/10 or 10/10 kinomax level of MoS and BvS it would need more fundamental changes like the former listed.

The issue with the Martha scene is it’s built entirely in subtext with Bruce’s flashbacks and stuff. So your satisfaction of the scene depends on how much you’re tuned into the movie otherwise it falls flat on face value.

This is a textbook case of the law of diminishing returns. Look at the box office trajectories of franchises like Transformers, Jurassic World, Terminator, Star Wars, the MCU, and Fast & Furious. Initial entries often rake in massive profits due to hype and novelty, but as sequels pile on, audience fatigue sets in. Each sequel tends to gross less than the previous one unless it's exceptional.

The only thing this film has going for it is Gunn’s name and the only people that are actively looking forward to this thing are those that hate Snyder with a passion. To your average normie this looks like just another capeshit. It flat out looks bad. Functionally it’s not any different from something like Thor Love and Thunder. Jurassic Park doesn't have the vitrolic fandom baggage and fatigue those two franchises have. It will absolutely demolish them at the BO and have very strong legs given there's not much else for the entirety of July and beginning of August. It's family-friendly entertainment with no strings attached. It's a clear-as-day homerun for Universal.

It doesn't matter if it actually bombs or succeeds. The Gunn DCU is WB's last-ditch effort and they will use any BO numbers to justify keeping it going. They've invested far too much already. They've shot Supergirl and Lanterns and already paid millions in contracts for films in development all to serve this "vision" Gunn has. If it does about a 100 million more than its budget (350) it will be a success and WB will just cope and keep going.

They've given this guy way too much control already and it's made things catastrophically complicated and everything is primed for huge fallout within the studio. The recent WB/Discovery splitting is evidence of this.
>Pattinson's Batman
Never going to happen. Too much baggage. Pattinson/Reeves are already checked out(regardless of the whole DCU) and Gunn wants to get his own Batman. Of course none of this will mean anything if Superman bombs because Zazlav will fire everyone.

I looked it up ow and looks like the guy who made this projection (Data analysis for Fandango) also retracted and said it may be frontloaded LMAO.
> It was a very good first day of general sales considering how much demand was burned off by EA sales one day before. To be honest, I'd be encouraged by the day 1 sales even without the EA sales. But I also would still leave open the possibility that it is front-loaded just as much as I'm leaving open the possibility that it isn't.
This is the kind of big fan movie that amplifies that human desire for instant gratification and everyone wants definitive answers. That just doesn't happen.
I'm not saying anyone is making up numbers, but everyone does read numbers a little differently from the next person and may consider (or not consider) other factors in addition to what's in front of them. That's why none of us get it right 100% of the time and never will.

The universe gimmick is what has doomed it. Let's say that it was a one-and-done, right? No universe setup, no bloat with other lamer superheroes and stuff? Yeah, it'd do great. People don't care for this shit. It was a one-time thing and it will never be popular again. if you make audiences feel like they need to catchup and do homework on fictional universes, they will categorically shut that shit down now. It's a shame because this movie bombing will ANNIHILATE Superman as a character for a very, very long time. I expect Gunn to just quit and say he tried his best and DC Studios is quietly shelved as an entity.

Not really. This magazine was originally called Video Data and it's pretty old. In Japan ''video'' basically meant VHS.
VHS became oatdated so they had to change its name to DVD Data. Now it's called ''DVD & Streaming Data''.
They could go with ''Blu Ray & Streaming Data'' or something but that sounds stupid. I'm pretty sure they don't know what to do with its name anymore.
It's a pretty niche magazine in the first place and I didn't know it was still going. I assume it's full of paid shill articles and that's how they survived..

The thing I am curious to see is if the Indians figured out Superman yet. He's not actually white. I won't go into the meta physical crap but in the comics he's an alien and not white but look whitish. The girl they cast as Supergirl is pretty close to perfect face wise how the krptonian are described

China may have stopped caring about Hollywood movies 5 years ago, but JW will do HUGE over there and in foreign markets in general.
Domestically, it's OW is tracking about under 100M becasue it's 5 day opening is tracking for about 115-135, which is fucking terrible when you realize that the prior JW movies 5 day was 175M+, but that doesn't change the fact that Dinosaurs are over and all the other JW movies did 1B+

Superman is the third most popular character from the comics, being the other 2 Spider-Man and Batman, and Gunn made a movie to make money Disney-a-like, yes the movie could make >1B, Fantastic Four >800M too.

>Dude, it's Superman, the most well-known character in the planet, it's making [x]
They used to say this about BvS and making a billion and it still missed that mark.

I think we should accept that Superman, as well known as he is, isn't a guaranteed hit like we expect. It's been years since the character had the same pull he had (The Snyder reinvention of the character didn't help) and Gunn has a lot working against him.
He can still pull it off tho, I just don't think it's guaranteed. The movie has to be really good and F4 has to suck a lot more.
Unlike at the start where the marketing was terrible, they've been selling this movie better now, and while it's not at the level of F4 in public expectation, I say it has a chance now.

Jurrassic is making another billy and people on 4chin will act shocked as to how the franchise with dinosaurs pulled so many families with kids.
F4 will be a hit and the shot in the arm that Feige needed to reenergize Marvel.
Superman is surprisingly the dark horse here, I used to bet that it was making close to a billion but making less than F4, but the recent hype might push it to at least a billy.

So it'll go Dinosarus > Superman > Fantastic Four
a lotta jews will make a lotta money that month regardless

>Next you'll be saying Spiderman and Batman have no pull just on name.
Spiderman has had a healthy stream of constant well-liked releases (yes even Spectacular) since 2002. Same for Batman since the fkn 80s. Not to mention cartoons and shit.
Superman had one cultural-defining movie in the 70s and never something on that level again. A weird dud reboot and a failed series of movies that didn't really get people interested in him. He is not on the level of the Big Two.
This isn't due to the character btw, it's just that Warner Bros are massively incompetent and think he's a hard sell. This is the grave they dug for themselves, they made Superman not a guaranteed hit

It's that AND a summer blockbuster film. The three Jurassic World films we've gotten so far are dogshit, yet each one made over a billion dollars. Rebirth is undeniably a summer blockbuster film and I bet it'll make more money than Supes and F4.

The issue is that all those bad movies have become representative of his character in pop culture. The only other major pop culture influence he has is the 90’s cartoon, Smallville, and Injustice
