>>211522593 (OP) Funniest part is that his whole act hinged on the psycho drug making his victims hallucinate him as something scarier than he really was, yet when he shows up in TDK he's just wearing the mask like normal it's goofy as hell.
>>211525832 He was a secondary villain anyway. The idea was that he was just this overambitious jerk playing with fire and a useful idiot in the bigger scheme.

Cillian's character could've made a great movie like Se7en or some other psych thriller. The way hes this therapist that tries to disarm you and then puts on the mask and suddenly your seemingly safe appointment becomes total horror is kino
>>211530842 This. Nolan shouldโve made a scarecrow spin off instead of Oppenheimer.

I don't know if growing up on movies influenced me on this, but every psychiatrist I've ever met comes off as a genuine psychopath. I could share an apartment with an ex con but I'd never leave a glass of water unnatended near a psych
>>211525832 Murphy's line delivery is great in Begins, it's Hamill-tier, but you're right there's really no part of the film (or trilogy) where he's an all-out villain.
>>211531547 This scene prefaces the interrogation between Batman and Joker pretty nicely. The structure of the TDK trilogy is really nice (although the screenplay of TDKR is really flawed).

>play a psychopath >just don't blink little trick actors don't want (You) to know.
>>211531547 That's what happens when you run villain of the week in a movie series. He could have been the big bad in the shadows throughout but they blew their load in one film and his appearances in the rest seemed like they were just an excuse to have cillian involved.
>>211531645 there's really no way to portray 'fear gas' in a serious way. you either have CGI monsters, or a drunk camera/doubling effect.
Nolan was playing a losing game here.

>>211531641 I'm still puzzled how the shrink went from selling drugs to becoming a judge in a kangaroo court, you'd think he's have his fingers in different pies.
>>211531902 >no-nonsense black lady trope off-topic but reminds me of the waitress in Fall (2022) where she points out the radio tower to the girls... what bothered me is how brief that scene is, if two girls were going to climb a tower they'd probably let everyone in the diner know about beforehand.
