>try to pet a cat

Why are they like this?
3 out of the 6 cats I've had in my life were super affectionate and always wanted to be near a human or other cat. 2 of those were even strays that were rescued as fully grown adults.
cats as a species all have schizophrenia
>try to pet a cat
>it approaches me and nudges me
>I yell “AYO SQUEEZE IT NIGGA”
>it runs away
What the fuck am I doing wrong?
>>211536060 (OP)probably wanted to lead you to a buried treasure full of gold dubloons
but you didn't run after him
>>211536060 (OP)You probably pet the cat like a dog.

Remember cats don't like when you make direct eye contact or watch them closely. This engages their predatory danger/competition sense. To gain a cat's affection, briefly look at it, then make slow languid blinks or look away, this tells the cat "I'm comfortable in your presence and we needn't fear each other"
