Not really. It's literally the same problem as the star wars sequels. They just get a bunch of randoms to crank out movies. They have no vision, know nothing of the franchise, don't care about creating a coherent story or lore. Just make whatever shit up on the fly, then the next one makes up more shit, then the next one retcons shit and makes up more shit. It's almost like that's a terrible way to tell stories. Star Wars kind of had more going for it as a world than Alien did though (centering on the monster), the only way you could really keep the light going for an isolated self-contained story like Alien/Aliens would have been to have it perhaps encompass new Aliens... to which what even is the work about anymore? If you want a horror show to go on, you must build a wider world for it to exist in for new stories to be told. Otherwise, you fall into the category of "doesn't need a sequel" because there is nothing left to tell.
