I liked 2010 more than 2001 and I'm not ashamed to say it.

2010 is one of the worst movies I've ever watched. It's on youtube for free now if you need to fall asleep.

Same, at least 2010 is a coherent and good story, 2001 is just a visual spectacle.

>I liked 2010 more than 2001 and I'm not ashamed to say it.
One is only 13 years old once... But seriously, anyone who's a mature and sophisticated person understands that 2001 is greater than 2010, and no use of a vague word such as "like" or "enjoy" will change that. The only thing which matters is that your taste sucks and you should leave this place because it's filled to the brink with idiots like you who doesn't understand art unless its literally explained to you with large readable letters.

2001 vs. 2010: We compare them on the issues that matter:

— HOT BABE
2001: Errr, some of the apes at the start might be female I guess
2010: Helen Mirren
Result: 2010 Wins

— HAL 9000
2001: HAL forced by clandestine programming to act as a villain completely against his nature
2010: HAL gets redemption arc
Result: 2010 Wins

— PROTAGONIST
2001: No-one knows the name of this actor
2010: Roy Scheider
Result: 2010 Wins

— ENDING
2001: Man gets old in an hotel room. Giant baby seen floating through space. Kubrick & Clarke do another line
2010: “All these worlds are yours”. A resolution we can understand
Result: 2010 Wins

Final tally: 2010 beats 2001 by a score of 4-0.

This. 2010 is, as storytelling goes, the better movie, although 2001 was the greater artistic achievement. I thought the spaceship interior of 2010 was too dark and over-engineered, too. Way too many buttons & bleeping lights. Siimpler would have been better. Huge laffs, though, for making the Indian scientest played by a white guy.

I wasn't even aware people dislike 2010, movie is fucking great, just as good or better than 2001, never worse.

2010 has no function, no meaning, no value. It's a sequel only in its name. What's the main motive behind it? Money, there's no other reason. Lets go back to the same spot, with similar characters but lets insert our current political affairs (surely they'll be going on in 2010!) and lets have a happy joyful ending instead of it all being "vague" and philosophical. It's just a typical hollywood movie. Next to no artistic intentions at all (in comparison to 2001).

I wouldn’t say it’s better but it’s a good movie and definitely a worthy follow up to a classic flick
Like Predator 2

Because the Monoliths were nurturing intelligent life on Europa, the way they did on prehistoric Earth. They didn't want humanity fucking it up.

They also eventually killed the Monoliths with a computer virus. Which is asileven. That's two steps past asinine.

>2001 is good because... it ends in the middle of the story
If you haven't read the books you'd find the movie incomprehensible
If you have read the books you'd know kubrick is a faggot hack
It's like watching Predator but after they get out of the enemy base the credits roll
