Yeah, the most you can really get away with is IQ reduction. You can include parts of the whole but not everything at once, and at that point it's almost not worth it. I guess you could do it if you present as a "bad end" in an alternate reality like Lorraine in Back to the Future 2 but you still wouldn't be able to take it too far. In the scene where Jamie and Victoria are getting ready to go to the TARDIS, Jamie calls Victoria's dress a "dustbin".

The Doctor tells Jamie and Victoria that he's a doctor. He responds "of course, it's very important".

As they leave Earth and are trying to figure out what planet it is, the Doctor is being snobby, trying to figure out why they went so far out in the first place. Jamie tells the Doctor that they should ask Victoria to help them as they've been in the past a long time and she's a history student. The Doctor dismisses her, saying it's only because of her clothes, to which Jamie snaps back "And what's wrong with his?"

So many other scenes. I can go on for days. It's an incredible arc and such a perfect introduction for Jamie.
Ohhhhhh I’ve definitely got Jamie wrong. I need to go back to the show. I assumed from a few of his later exits that he had a lot more control over the show, which is not the case.

I shall present you the likely case scenario.
Billie Piper flies the Tardis back to earth looking for the Doctor. The truth is yes, of course she's actually Rose. Rose now teams up with 14th Doctor so Russel can have his cake and eat it too. The goal is to spend a few seasons figuring out where the real 16th.
Russell may or may not actually complete his desired Susan/The Boss arc with Tennant instead. We all know Tenny's not against coming back to help bail out the show.
16 then gets to be a fresh actor for what ever showrunner has to salvage this mess.

Also I do think it is still an absolute possibility that we could get Rose for some amount of time (even if she is "not the same as she used to be"). As I said in another thread, my current theory is that she's been stuck in the void inbetween life and death since she left in S3, but her mind managed to stay coherent for all this time and she's now a disembodied spirit/consciousness. She will probably be the 13th doctor's companion at some point, but it might not be right away. But we still have a very good chance of getting some Rose in the next season. (Of course, this is just my theory so I could be totally wrong! :P)
Honestly, I still say at this point that the show is fucked. As in, we could see an actual decline in viewership from this point on. Aging actors will come and go. If we see the 13th Doctor again, it will be for one or two seasons.
You could always make your own version of Doctor Who with your own Doctor and keep it going as long as you like! :P

In all seriousness, I've been a Whovian since the mid-90s, and this hasn't been the first time the show has felt pretty dead in the water. It's never been so dark as to just be totally cancelled, but there have been some scary times for Whovians where it looked like the show was really struggling to stay afloat, and fans (myself included) were starting to think maybe it was time to let it go to its rest. I remember back in the Twin Dilemma days, we were sure the show would get cancelled. And even before then, during that disastrous 25th season, we thought we had reached the point of no return for the show. But after taking a sabbatical, it came back, and a huge amount of work was put in to bring back the show we know and love today.

The show's done pretty good for itself over the years, and if there is no reason for it to go back into hiding, I see no reason why it can't keep coming back for more.
Of course, all this is just my opinion.
