>>211566738i would assume it's one of those forced checklist of x amount of minority casting of no name / shitty actors, tropes that contribute nothing to the story but were shoved in anyway and there being at least 1 "bad ass" girl in the cast
think of stargate: atlantis vs sg1, the further along stargate went the more "reddit" it became
teal'c had a reason to be black because of the goa'uld theme, carter was a smart woman and a capable warrior but didn't outshine the combat heavy duo of teal'c and o'neill nor did she outshine daniel jackson in his specific field so no mary stu bs
what separates "reddit" from good writing / compelling story is that there is no unearned or forced in characters, teal'c plays a vital role in understanding the goa'uld more and carter's sex doesn't matter outside of few o'neill carter relationship tease moments, no character feels too out of place, the cast is solid and doesn't have too many annoying characters and the show carries itself
then we get to stargate atlantis / sg1 late seasons and we get vala the girl boss originale, she's the original mary stu that we're supposed to be endeared by but she just comes off as a wrongly cast teenager character who is a mary stu love interest for daniel, khal drogo and the literally who black lady are okay since literally who black lady could literally be replaced by any of the other villagers and it would work and khal drogo was written to be kind of believable last man standing type and they needed another musclehead to bounce off of sheppard
tldr; if it has a quota checklist for shit that don't need to be there and add nothing to the story it's "reddit"
