How do we make Doctor Who great again?
>>211601890Large scale decanonisation.
Without googling, what was the name of the episode where Nick Briggs first voiced the daleks (on TV)?
>>211601890Cast a white bloke doctor and cute nerd girl companion who is secretly sexy. Don't discuss past show, just focus on fun and weird adventures and only bring back races if they fit the plot.
>>211601890Why is Tennant on there twice? Yeah I know he was 14, but it was basically just 10 again. Might as well have the meta crisis Doctor on there.
>>211601890Bit of Macarthyism at the BBC.
>>211602128She is not sexy.
>>211602128Only way she's secretly sexy, is if she's secretly weird as fuck.
You know what I'm talking about.
>>211602033Should John Hurt be canon?
>>211602128She's too much of a pandering character for this.

Reminder that Peter Davison played the Doctor's son in an audio. The Doctor's Son being Susan's father. An unproduced 1st Doctor story would've had Hartnell play the Doctor's son, creating precedent.

>>211603528Explain why Mindwarp is good.
>>211601890My story ideas are probably too esoteric to have wide appeal, but I'd institute rules beside it
>No past doctors can appear unless there's an anniversary>No flashbacks except for previous on segments>No re-introduction of past races or characters unless the story would work without them>No weird sexual tension between Doctor and companion, companion can have a boyfriend but he must also be cool and not get cucked>No therapy for Doctor. Maybe some therapy through adventure for the companion
>>211603820Is this just assuming asexuality unless evidence shows a particular other sexuality?
>>211601549 (OP)and today is homo nigrus
>>211603820Wasn't Fugitive married?
>>2116038201 was engaged to an aztec woman.
3 was a gay sailor.
4 fucked Romana.
7 fucked Bernice Summerfield
Fugitive was engaged to a woman, but I don't think she actually wanted it, the gaydar is confused.
11 was a gayboy that kissed Rory.
10 only kissed women, making him straight.
>>211604184That wasn't her that was Ruth.
>>211602842It needs work but this probably is the for the best. AI will replace TV and film and people will make their own, though most people will gravitate to 'professionals' who do it better than others.
Seems like a good opportunity to animate all the best BF stories or come up with better stories.
Soon the TV show itself will be retconned and everyone will have their own personal canon.
>>211604495In Human Nature/Family of Blood did they address the fact that John Smith was essentially a person in his own right, who "died" when the Doctor's personality was restored?
>>211603896>Is this just assuming asexuality unless evidence shows a particular other sexuality?Correct.
>>211602842This would never get put on Doctor Who on TV/streaming. They had to redesign the fucking zombies from Waters of Mars because the original concept was too scary.
Same with The Well. It had to be rewritten because the original deaths were "too gruesome".
>>211602033Nothing against Jo Martin but why is her character included in the official lineup????
Also, I wish the 14th Doctor never happened. I DO NOT consider the 60th Anniversary canon, nor ANY of the 15th Doctors era.
>>211604686Can't remember but they did when Yana became the Master. He said that it was merely an invention and a disguise.
DEREK JACOBI SHOULD'VE BEEN THE MASTER FOR THE CAPALDI ERA.
>>211603582Brian Blessed.
>>211604686They do in the book, the TV version not so much.
>>211604896>Nothing against Jo Martin but why is her character included in the official lineup????the entire reason her incarnation exists was so the BBC could make promotional material featuring "all" the Doctors during Jodie's run and it wasn't a picture of all white people. same reason she's shoved in now.
>>211604215People here don't ever actually watch Doctor Who, not even the classic series. Don't bother trying to explain.
>>211604896>Same with The Well. It had to be rewritten because the original deaths were "too gruesome"Source?
>>211604215>7 fucked Bernice Summerfield8 fucked Bernice, not 7.
>>211604686Yeah, they make it clear that John Smith doesn't want to die, and that him becoming the Doctor isn't just him recovering some memories. He's his own man that chose to sacrifice himself to bring the Doctor back. And when the Doctor comes back you see how he's completely different to John Smith, he's not the same man. It's especially highlighted when 10 is trying to say that he's capable of being like John when trying to convince Joan to become a companion but she knows that John is dead, and that John would never have endangered so many lives on a whim to play pretend and escape the Family of Blood.
>>211605287Unleashed episode. RTD said he had to rework the script because it was originally too violent in the scene where the entity was killing all the crew
>>211605004I was sad when I realised that they only did the TTC shit so the line-up of Doctors wouldn't be nearly all white men.
It also means that it won't be retconned out because it would been 'erasing' Fugitive and the diverse children.
>>211605415Just ignore 'em.
>>211605447that might be easy to do
>>211605415>I was sad when I realised that they only did the TTC shit so the line-up of Doctors wouldn't be nearly all white men.It was just Chib wanting to do a shitty version of Cartmel that missed the point. I wonder if it would have been accepted more if he was way more vague about where Fugitive was placed, and didn't explain the Timeless Child stuff beyond maybe keeping the Ireland stuff.
>>211605004Do black people even watch Doctor Who
>>211605604other than Jo Martin, no
>>211605604HE does.

>>211605351>RTD said he had to rework the script because it was originally too violent in the scene where the entity was killing all the crewDoctor Who can't get huge if it stays sanitized. Kids and teens will think it's lame and gay for pulling its punches, amongst other things.
>>211605589>I wonder if it would have been accepted more if he was way more vague about where Fugitive was placedRuth doesn't work pre-Hartnell due to the police box being a thing before the Chameleon Circuit was damaged. That's why everyone assumed she was between 2 and 3 as a new take on the Season 6B idea. But nah, she's a Morbius Doctor instead which makes no sense even with memory erasure.

>>211605900Doctor Who is allowed to be scary, but not too scary. For example in Series 4 of the revival they filmed a scarier version of the guy turning into an Ood that they had to make more tame where it was going to have his skin flapping around his head, and the tentacles coming directly out of his mouth face on.
>>211606374it was revealed to me in a dream
>>211606326>Doctor Who is allowed to be scary, but not too scaryBro, FNAF has scarier shit. Kids love Sonic.EXE and analog horror. It's just old fucks who are out of touch with the youth.
>>211606374They never released the footage of it but we have an image. On Confidential you can also see the guy get interviewed with the skin flaps flapping about.
>>211606548And kids were playing GTA and CoD while talking about Family Guy and South Park in the 00s. Kids like shit for kids when it's just as mean-spirited as the shit for adults.
>>211606696Would've been, as they say, "kino".
>>211606696There's a little bit of footage of it on Confidential actually, the problem they were having was that with the tentacles coming out of his mouth it would have given the impression of him throwing up, which led to it being reshot with a stand-in for the side profile. It's again one of those issues where you can't go too harsh because there's young kids watching.
>We know exactly where the "President Eternal" is hiding. He is an easy target, but is safe there - We are not going to take him out (EXTERMINATE!), at least not for now. But we don't want demats shot at civilians, or Drone Daleks. Our patience is wearing thin. Peoples of the universe, thank you for attending carefully!
>>211606548FNAF is just jumpscares and at their worst EXE games just do meme hyper realistic bloody versions of Sonic characters. Real people probably at the very least having their necks snapped in The Well does maybe cross a bit of a line.
>>211607299Not just jumpscares, some scarier psychological stuff, D Who could definitely do some more of that and should, fertile material.

The only change they made was the black actress not wearing contact lenses. That was because RTD thought the contact lenses looked too scary and didn’t want any of the actors wearing them, but he must’ve been overruled at some point (thankfully).

>>211601890Release a new doctor in distress.
>>211601890We pull an RTD and do a time-skip and reset the universe status-quo again, while retconning the shit we didn't like.
Doesn't gotta be another massive time war event, but can just say there was an untold story that forced the Doctor to start over again and altered the universal status quo and canon.
Then we just try and do a solid season of Doctor who without too much reliance on the past established canon, no need to reintroduce Unit again yet, can maybe throw in one classic monster but can't be any big name thing. Something die-hard fans can go
>I know this glup shitto! While new fans can see it as something new, idk only thing that might serve that role now is the Great Vampires which you can be vague enough to get away with.
Mainly you just gotta really try to make a good season with a satisfying finale which would already be a change of pace from everything Jodie onwards
>>211601890We can't. The BBC will not let you retcon. And for all the reasons /who/ has already discussed in the past, both a hard or soft reboot have issues.

>>211614747I think they are talking about retconning away everything post 12th. Particularly the first female and first non-white Doctors.
>>211614797Honestly with how bad ratings have been since 12 would the BBC even care?
>>211614753That's not even the problem. the problem is he acts like a poof all the time.
Why did every episoe of Ncuti's era feel like a different genre? You never knew whether you were getting gay musical, psychological horror, meta 4th wall breaking, hard sci-fi, or a mix of all of them.
>>211602128She raped Mark. She's not a lesbian, /who/.
>>211614892At this point I have no idea what the BBC and other media companies think. People are saying things are switching now with the entertainment industry, but I feel like there is something of a 2 more weeks narrative around wokeness or whatever you want to call it coming to an end. In the case of the BBC specifically the rot seems that institutionally deep I imagine there will be internal pushback by people (who do not actually care about the show, be that in terms of lore or popularity) against undoing the first woman and first non-white Doctor. I easily see the BBC floundering on over the next several years regarding Doctor Who, both out of arrogance and incompetence. After that you have to ask can, assuming the culture does change, it even be revived in some way. Even if a revival (soft or hard or retconned are all debates in themselves) there is no guarantee it is actually a success; we take it as a given that the 2005 revival successful in popularity when it could have feasibly failed.
Really felt like there was supposed to be more of a pay-off. Poppy was obviously supposed to be either the Doctor, the Doctor's child, or Susan, instead because everyone was leaving they had to just hastily put together a shit ending that didn't make any sense.
Why did Verada leave, anyway? Was she always going to be a one series companion? If so why did RTD make her so relevant?
>>211601890Season cold opens and follows Piper, NuTennant and multiple characters all doing Doctor esque things and you don't find out until the end of the episode who the new Doctor is.
Resulting 'real' Doctor wakes up in the anti-matter dimension trapped by the real Omega; everything during and after Whitaker's regen was all a dream. Doctor somehow manages to defeat Omega and escape but is now angry and confused over the non-existence of his dream family; this defines his aloof personality over the rest of the season as he learns to open up and determine what he believes is real.
>>211615357>People are saying things are switching now with the entertainment industry, but I feel like there is something of a 2 more weeks narrative around wokeness or whatever you want to call it coming to an endI don't know the vibes in America but what I do know is Britain is consistently a few years behind whatever the US is doing.
When the US players had already stopped kneeling for Floyd the English players were still doing it, despite the fact there is no issue with police shootings or discrimination by the police in the UK.
People meme on the loicence fee but the effects of it are that the government of the day do have far reaching powers to effect change at the BBC and in their shows. All this is to say if reform do get in in/before 2025 they would probably make a big show of demanding they "end wokeness", particularly in terms of minority mandates on BBC shows.
Or they'd just cancel it.
>>211615471An opening episode where reality is becoming increasingly absurd, and the Doctor is hopping to a new body every few minutes, only for it all to be confirmed an illusion at the end, would be a pretty solid way to get going, and sweep a lot of baggage under the rug.
You have to then actually cast a decent actor, and settle on the right tone though, or you're right back to square one.
>>211615658I know people say this a lot but Doctor Who has always been woke, I don't get why people are only mad about it now. Is it because it's on purpose now and it was more "Yeah he/she is black/gay/indian/whatever" without it being the focal point of the show with a ton of press?
Rose and Mickey for example, I know she leaves him to go off with 9 but an interracial relationship was still a pretty big thing even in 2005. Would it have been more intolerable if the pre-release press made a huge deal about it? It seemed like Mickey was cast because they liked Noel Clarke, not because he was black and they liked him too
>>211615658Next British general election is not until 2029. One could be called before then, but highly unlikely given how big a majority Labour have. So that is 4 years till then, by which point Reform could have imploded for whatever reason. Or Reform get screwed over the British electorate method - in 2024 they got 14.3% of the votes, yet only 0.8% of the MPs. Besides, even if the BBC ends wokeness there are differing levels to what they may be. It may be nominal or a passive end. It may be a return to X year. Though in whatever case 1) it still means all the baggage Doctor Who has is there, and 2) no guarantee that anyone can realistically successfully fix it.
>>211615781It hasn't always been woke. That's the thing.
Wokeness is explicitly this new thing we have where everything is weirdly angry and antagonistic towards white people, men, and heterosexuals, specifically.
How do you figure The Aztecs is woke? It isn't.
People can say it a thousand times, and it wont be true. Even Captain Jack wasn't woke, because Captain Jack was just a cool guy, and not a commentary on how all straight people are evil.
>>211615781>an interracial relationship was still a pretty big thing even in 2005You weren't alive then, bro. No one cared.
>>211615900Ah, okay. That makes sense and I agree. RTD did cast minorities and have gay stories in his first run without making everyone else feel like they were wrong for not being gay and black. I tought you were defining "woke" as "suddenly there are black people in everything for no apparent reason"
>Captain Jack was just a cool guyas soon as my dad found out he was gay it was an endless series of "Oh watching Doctor Who again huh? Is this the episode where Captain Jack takes it up the ass in the TARDS with the Sonic Screwdriver?
>>211615905I was born in 1991
>>211615781Do you seriously see no difference between the stuff we've had recently (ask the meep it's pronouns, male presenting timelord) and micky's existence? The problem with "woke" meaning "whatever I dislike" is you can easily claim it's always had XYZ, despite the fact the sheer level of performative pandering (that the trans community THEMSELVES say is hamfisted) has clearly never existed in the show before now.
It's frustrating that the openly stated goal is "making chuds seethe" instead of making a good show. The show would be just as shit if it was about "making leftists seethe".
Spite has never been a muse for great art.
>>211615905Yeah, it's literally a bigger deal now.
Everyone became race blind in the 80's, and then remained race blind right up until lie 2012, when race issues hit us all in the face like a brick wall.
I can genuinely say it never occurred to me as a child why there shouldn't be brown people on TV.

>>211615781Because the style of storytelling/messaging has become much more noticeably preachy and arrogant. The 'wokeness' as written by RTD is surface level progressivism (read: not progressive), simply flaunting the appearance of diversity and inclusion without making meaningful effort to BE progressive and inclusive or even genuinely express progressive ideas.
RTD doesn't seem to know the difference between representation and tokenism (a micro aggression); Shirley is a token wheelchair user who seems to only exist to be a victim of cartoonish ableism; Rose Noble exists as a token trans character whose major event is essentially expressing their pronoun and basically becomes UNIT's neglected punching bag afterwords.
It also goes hand-in-hand with the production treating the show as a series of (failed) 'hype' moments engineered to trend on TikTok and Instagram, in case the incredibly narrow blocking and flat cinematography didn't make it obvious.
Here is the exact moment "woke" began.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCwhlZtHhWs
Context: After the 2008 financial crash there was increasing anger against the government, the banks, and the media. For the first time in modern history this wasn't just confined to the usual leftist anti-capitalist sorts. Everyone was being affected and worried about this. The left and right wing were united against the ruling class. This was extremely dangerous for them.
When the usual methods of dissuading dissent failed (media lying about their aims and means of protesting) he popular protests against the status quo then began to be infiltrated by plains clothes intelligence service members, note the authoratative and scripted way they speak. This is not an organic evolution.
From here it stopped being the 99% against the 1% and started being what we see in the world today, "the left" vs "the right", all heat was taken off the institutions of power, all corruption went back to being ignored, instead we were debating gays, blacks, feminism, any number of different things but crucially NOT questioning the system.
"Woke" means paying attention to these superficial social issues over criticism of the government, media, banks. This is why we find ourself in the paradoxical world where "leftists" fully support the system.
The reason "woke" is so annoying in Doctor Who is because this show was supposed to be anti-system, the show was always anti-system, the Happiness Patrol is a critique of Thatcher. Now we have a genderbending gay black doctor telling us space amazon are good and Israel has a right to defend itself against Hellions. The show has completely shifted from being opposed to the system to fully in favor of it and the clapping seals of reddit can't see it because they're supposed to not see it.
>>211615781>an interracial relationship was still a pretty big thing even in 2005.was it? there were just no black people in my village then. Indian family who ran a corner shop (yeah yeah, "Pakis").
we've imported a lot of US nonsense that doesn't make sense here. but i always assumed that if London had a lot of black people comparatively, they would just end up with white people, and nobody would give a shit. maybe their families? people just get together.
in pop culture at least, i remember it being a storyline on Grange Hill in the early 2000s. white girl dates black boy, her friends outright say stuff like, "interracial relationships never work!"
again, i just didn't know black people. unless you are a racist, who cares? i might be concerned if i dated a black person and their family was "traditional" (e.g. African Christians).
>>211616807It's all true I just don't articulate myself very well some times. It is important to note that the text used in the meme is considered offensive and should not be used in real-life situations. The meme is likely using the text in a satirical or humorous context, but it is still important to be aware of the potential harm that such language can cause.
The Sixth Doctor, played by Colin Baker, was known for his colorful and often mismatched outfits, as well as his arrogant and sometimes patronizing demeanor. He was a controversial character, and his tenure as the Doctor was marked by a production hiatus and his eventual replacement. However, he has also gained a cult following among fans, who appreciate his unique personality and his willingness to challenge the conventions of the series.

They reuse it for another article of waffle about the finale in the mag itself (which seems to come from a parallel universe where everybody absolutely loved the finale and was shocked by all the totally exciting tweests). Practically guaranteed Billie didn't even come on set. Also confirmed that nobody at DWM even knew about this.

The Cbeebies show is the BBC's way of saying that they haven't decided to give up on Doctor Who no matter what happens.
>they could still always turn around and say "no suitable production company applied / there were no good pitches" and cancel it at any point.True, but if they were sending the show out to die or as something that would never exist I doubt the application process would have been quite so public like it has been.

Eleven was my Doctor. Watching his period of the show at a formative time in my life changed me. It made me believe that I, as a nerdy skinny green kid, could be a hero. Here was this eccentric person, irreverent and empathetic and out of step with social norms, but he was loved by his friends and capable of affecting great change. Matt Smith was the man who taught me not to fade into the background and I will always be grateful to him for that.
