I liked season 1 back in the day and am thinking of watching more seasons.

Season 2 is absolutely kino but just different enough it might turn you off (as it did a lot of fans of the first season). Season 3 is very underrated but nowhere near as good as the first two imo (though it does have arguably the best end scene out of all three seasons). I haven't seen 4 but since Nic Pizzolatto isn't involved I don't really care to. They shouldn't have called it "True Detective" if he wasn't attached.

Seconding that the second season is kino. It's got a bit of a different feel (particularly because of the setting) but it's a really well done dark mystery story about some very broken people.

literally a middle of the road cop drama, no clue why this ever even had the true detective name on it. 3 has an unbelievably awful ending and fairly weak characters but it's solid in terms of atmosphere and setting, and reintroduces a shitter version of the timeskip pacing that was pretty integral to s1

it's honestly as good as the first season
it completely commits to being its own thing and the performances all around are fucking great
I would love to see what pizzaman originally had intended for the 2nd season before he was forced to rush by the studio,
something tells me he was making a lot more direct connections to s1's througlines than execs were comfortable with

None of the rest of them are worth your time. I'm sure you could find many other sources of entertainment that are better.

the core of s1 was never that there's a nationwide cabal of pedophiles (even though that's true) but that even in the remotest areas the people who hold relative power will exploit it in the most heinous ways. it doesn't take a highest-level-of-government conspiracy to end up with hundreds of raped children

Season 2 and 3 are both good
Season 3 takes a bit more time to get going but hang in there it's good
You can skip season 4 that's dogshit all the way
