Even if you change it to "wait," the atb keeps going for both you and the enemy during the long ass animations for everything so you end up sitting around with your turns delayed while the enemy acts twice as often basically. Also because of the ability queue system, you'll often have characters standing around waiting for their action to go off for up to like 60 seconds. You could have had a character casting Esuna 45 seconds ago but because so many extra enemy turns have accumulated and because time doesn't freeze during animations, the character you needed to cast it on is already dead. Just being turn based would solve everything.
