He's extremely good at talking his way out of shit and he helped a lot of guilty clients escape prison. Of course, criminals are stupid so plenty of them eventually committed more crimes and wound up there again, but they'd remember he was the guy who got them out previously.

That's something that confuses me about the ending. Didn't Jimmy sing like a canary to the FBI and snitch on everything he could think about to get the deal he ultimately rejected? A lot of criminals should hate him after that
