It takes a while to get into. The first few episodes are especially a LABORIOUS crawl. But once you break through, it's hard not to get invested.

It's one of those shows where it's better to watch clips on YouTube than actually watch as a series.
For another example, take House. I don't think anyone is deliberately going out of their way to rewatch House, but people like watching key scenes on YouTube.
I've never seen The Wire. But I've seen clips, and I think it's good. Who knows what the fuck the actual truth of it is.
It's one of those shows where it's better to watch clips on YouTube than actually watch as a series.

if you need a strained comparison, it's the David Foster Wallace of television shows - critics/journalists heaped outlandish praise on it while it was around, then a small segment of those same people were too harsh on its flaws in retrospect
it's a pretty good show, it's not boring, it's not for 'pretentious people' ... it's prose can be annoying, and it's much more reactionary than you would think (all like DFW)

i watched all the seasons when they came out and the first two i watched again before the third dropped, and i think i rewatched the first before the second dropped too. the second season was best also liked the fourth
