It explores depression and the complexities of human struggle deeper than any show and even most films, even side characters like Eugene Pontecorvo have episodes where they are the center of the storyline and his setbacks and struggles are there for the viewer to see. If normies love it and it's considered surface level it's a testament to it's mass appeal and ability to connect with anyone
