"""Great""" directors like Kubrick all steal their stories from novels, real-life events, or other screenwriters. Say what you will about Tarantino, but almost all his films come from him alone. The dialogue, characters, and plots are completely original. How many directors can you say this about? Very few.

It's alternate history with mostly original characters. Don't be obtuse.

False. Most directors are parasites who steal their stories from others.

Nolan conceived and wrote Inception entirely on his own, proving he is *capable* of completely authentic and original storytelling. But most of his stories are collaborations with his brother Jonathan or with David S. Goyer (or the laziest form of cinema: the biopic).
