>A caption that 28 years after the infected storm the English Tunnel to the mainland the EU finally force them back and quarantine all of Britain with regular navy patrol boats
>Jamie and his son Spike leave their sick mother Isla to go on Spike's rite of passage to the mainland via a causeway to kill infected
>They succeed in killing a few before being forced into hiding by a huge group of infected
>While in hiding they spy a bonfire in the distance created by a Dr Kelson, an eccentric but kind-hearted physician
>The infected, led by an Alpha chase Jamie and his son all the way back home
>Spike later explains that the Alpha is a rare type of infected where the virus actually behaves like a steroid as well as a disease, making them bigger, faster, stronger and WITH A FUCKING HEALING FACTOR
>The islanders succeed in driving off the Alpha with multiple arrows and a ballista (he heals back)
>Spike finds out his dad has been cheating on Isla so he decides to bring his mother to find Dr Kelson
>A separate story has group of Swedish sailors whose boat crashed and are now stock on the island. The infected and the Alpha kill all except Erik who escapes and later meets up with Spike and Isla
>They find a train with an infected pregnant woman who gives birth to a non-infected baby (protected by the placenta)
>The Alpha arrives and kills Erik but is stopped by Dr Kelson
>Dr Kelson brings them to a huge bone monument made of up human skulls that he created using dead humans and infected
>Dr Kelson explains that Isla's illness is due to cancer and is beyond saving and kills her by lethal injection
>Spike then puts Isla's skull on top of the monument
>Spike later leaves his village alone to explore the rest of the mainland and gets chased after by a group of infected

Zombies (including 'infected') are boring as hell, where as crossed are actually scary. The idea of setting a tragic star crossed lovers story in the post apocalypse was genius.
I will still probably see 28 years later. But it will really only be for the crossed vibes.
If they wanted to do more movies in this series, it should have been '28 Seconds Later' about the fall of London instead.

Some of the most interesting directorial and camera work in years. The cast is like 99.5% white.
It wants to be both maudlin and comic-booky and by the end they have a car crash.

I'm still not over my late 00s to early 10's zombie fatigue. I don't know that I ever will be. That was too much shit.
>>211677166 (OP)Dumb as shit. The first movie made it clear the virus was totally isolated to Britain and that the infected would only survive a month or so at most. We explicitly saw that the virus doesn't transfer to animals that actually could've spread the disease since the bird who incidentally got Frank infected was eating a corpse and was clearly not infected. The movie was a black comedy where all the shit the military people were doing was totally unnecessary and irrelevant because they could've just sat there and waited 10 more days and the whole thing would've been over.
Even if you want to believe that the virus somehow survived 28 weeks without dying out, it's beyond belief to say it would last 28 fucking years. We eradicated the coof in a year and a half.

>>211685470I don't mind a movie that is introspective, 28 Days itself has a lot of downtime and moments where the zombies aren't on screen. But if 28 Years is anything like Garland's recent films like MEN and Civil War, I'm going in expecting it to have
>characters with barely any self preservation instincts>an interesting premise that immediately runs out of steam>misleading marketing making the film look better than it really is. >>211688755the zombie baby is just a regular baby. there is bullshit about "the placenta protecting it" but the real point is that the infected in this movie aren't straight antagonists, they inspire pity and seem to represent ideas about primordial humans. on two occasions human characters spare the lives of an infected because of a vague sympathy that the movie is smart enough to not try to explain. it's world-expanding in that it adds layers to the zombie lore kind of like TLOU did
>>211689505Please dont tell me they spare the "alpha" and dont kill him
>>211677166 (OP)Saw the film as well.
Just to add on the geography is completely fucking nonsense like the whole of North East England suddenly got twisted by the warp.
For fags who might give a shit, the whole community is on Holy Island and the kid needs to go South West. During the film they go past sycamore gap which is a whole 70 miles South West from Holy Island. They then continue South West arriving at the town of Gateshead where the whole Angel of the Norf is. Thing is Gateshead is directly East of sycamore gap and on the East coast but their travels put it directly on the West coast. So not only do the distances don't make any fucking sense but where they go as well.
I know this is a film but this triggered my autism more than it should have.

>>211689505You gotta be kidding me. Sure, let the infected nibble on your flesh and maybe it'll feel sorry for you after a while. There's too much of a gigantic disconnect between the infected in Days and Weeks to Years.

>>211691055Are the big guys the alphas? Are the alphas different from berserkers?
>>211690018Right, but the irony is that something like 28 Years only works in its own bubble completely independent of its predecessors. If it were a spiritual successor it would've been better, because then you wouldn't have to compare it to the first film depicting zombies dying of hunger, or the ideas of smart zombies and carriers from 28 Weeks. How these infected managed how to survive after 28 years of autistic tard running or learned and had the stamina to reproduce doesn't make a ton of sense with whats been established, unless the remaining infected are all smart zombies like Robert Carlyle's character was.
>>211690151If that's the case, they should probably abandon the idea of bringing back Cillian Murphy for Bone Temple and the third film in the trilogy. His storyline was wrapped up with the original film with not much left to expand on.

>>211693837So alex garland lied and instead the explanation is just "somehow France stopped the virus"?
>>211694234Somehow in Garlands universe the French for once don't runaway

>>211679218that group was so jarring looking that I first thought it was going to be revealed they were tourists from the continent, who snuck into britain to kill zombies, like in the purge movies, having people from all over the world traveling to the US to kill people.
Better than Final Destination and Sinners
>>211694234That's as close to an explanation as Garland and Boyle want to give. It's really just because they were deeply inspired by Brexit while working on Years, and the only way for it to make any kind of sense is to ignore the ending. So either Paris was successfully firebombed and rebuilt, the french managed to ship every zombie back to the UK, or the end sequence was just a nightmare that the carrier kid was having and he's just rotting away in an underground lab somewhere.
>>21169308028 Years Later: The Bone Temple was filmed back to back with this one. It is releasing in January. It's written by Alex Garland and is directed by Nia DeCosta. Cillian Murphy was spotted filming for it, so he's in it in some capacity.
If these two movies do well a final film with Boyle returning as director will be made, with Cillian Murphy's Jim appearing in a more central role.
>>211695161The simplest explanation is that Boyle and Garland didn't feel beholden to the ending of a movie they didn't make, that is widely considered deeply inferior to the original anyways

So they closed off Britain with the infected and non infected people still inside? I'm not up to date with the terrain of that area.. why can random people just go on the mainland without being stopped? Or is it like I think and they're also stuck in that infected zone? Why won't the surrounding areas standing watch save the uninfected and get them out of there? Kinda fucked up
>>211680004Kinda? There is an issue that takes place at the very beginning, and there is a guy who is really high on psychedelics and he is able to see the virus and kind of interact with it like a spiritual Force, which I think lends Credence to a supernatural origin, especially when you consider the facial cross, although I might be completely off the mark and misremembering.
There is also an issue where there is a guy who is a extremely Twisted violent psychopath and the crossed view him as one of their own, he ends up becoming their God because he is able to plan and think for them. That doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the origins, but interesting to see how it's slightly supports the supernatural Theory

>>211696069its all set up by the general tone of madness underlying the whole film. Fiennes is a skull collector and even Aaron Taylor Johnson's character is intentionally acted as a bit unhinged with how confident he is wandering around the wilderness with his 12yo kid.

Only a vague reference at best. Basically the rest of the world said fuck it, and left the bongs to rot on their island to contain the virus over letting it spread to the rest of the world. They know people are still alive, but the potential risk of letting the virus spread is too much to justify trying to save them.

I actually felt really bad for the infected in this movie. Especially in the first encounter where they are killing the fat ones. You could tell that Spike and Jamie are just straight up murdering an infected family for training, but spare the infected child in a moment of compassion.

The answer is simple though - the packs of zombies "hunt" local wildlife, and with the absence of civilization, the wildlife has flourished. There are a few times where they show massive deer herds roaming the country side, as well as the aftermath of zombie deer hunts. There is also one scene which shows a pack of zombies casually fucking around in a stream, implying that they regularly drink water. This is all helped along by highlighting the "alphas" who are able to provide some small amount of direction to their zombie pack.
It obviously still doesn't make much sense in a realistic sense, but the movie does make an effort to explain/show how the original Rage infected are still surviving.
>>211701403How can the infected survive for 28 years?? You can't exactly live off the land in England, especially so many people for so long.
>>211695161>>211695270Years and Weeks can't exist in the same canon anyway, because it's explicit to Weeks' premise that the original wave of infected had died, and it's explicit to Years' that they didn't.
