An entire trilogy of movies that don't move a story forward but instead just dismantles the previously established story. It was a daring and bold move. But also terrible.

In the context of this slop film why the fuck couldnโ€™t she just say โ€œThis was the lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker.โ€ or something? What is the big secret would it really take that long to quickly explain? Why shouldnโ€™t the hero who is out there single handedly saving the day not be fully aware of all the facts in a given situation? Story for another time wtf does that even mean?

Because it's JJ Abrams and thats one of the cheap tricks he uses in his movies.

>The "mystery box" is a storytelling technique popularized by J.J. Abrams, particularly known for its use in shows like Lost and Alias, and in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. It involves introducing numerous enigmatic elements and unanswered questions to engage the audience and create anticipation, often without a clear resolution in mind. While it can initially spark interest and discussion, critics argue that it can lead to unsatisfying payoffs when the mysteries are eventually addressed, or when they are left unresolved.

Episode 7 script was a mess and things were leaking pretty frequently, same thing with Episode 9 so this is all Bad Robot's fault. Anyway, back to the subject, Anakin's lightsabe was supposed to be an important mcguffin in the early drafts and that changed but you can proof of that is left in the film when Kylo Ren sees Finn igniting the lightsaber from afar and says "that belongs to me" even though he never never saw or mentioned Anakin's lightsaber before.

Had to look up the context, Finn is the one she gives it to so there's not really reason to explain it since it's not for him. The one who asks any question at all is Han(he asks where she got it, not what it is or whose it is) which presumably would be a bit long for a story whilst you're being attacked. Really they should have set it up so she dies or something whilst giving Rey it, with her answer to Rey's question being cut off by an explosion or something

This might be a stupid question but is this ever brought up or mentioned ever again or is this an accidental scene left in the movie by accident that should have been on the cutting room floor or something?

Alan Dean Foster's an old hand at adaptions, and was probably trying desperately to salvage the mess he had to work with.
Looking back, it really is the only explanation that could have justified her bullshit and filled in the mystery boxes without inviting further problems. Wouldn't have made the movie any better, of course.
