Some people seriously hype up The Social Network as high-grade cinema. I just donโ€™t get that interpretation. Can anyone who sees it that way explain their perspective? Iโ€™d genuinely like to understand what makes it resonate so deeply for you.

It's a decently made movie about a confident guy doing cool shit and being successful and arrogant, but not so successful that people can't wag their diner in faux disclaiming of the arrogance. Like Wolf of Wall Street. Women can goon over the attractive psychopath, and men can self insert. Its power fantasy wank, and people love it. No higher message. No greater art. And that's okay.

It's extreme trash, starring one of the world's worst, most obnoxious actors. And it only keeps getting worse as time goes by, when you look at the real thing it's based on, and how wrong the movie was about everything.

I feel like people indeed never elaborate on why The Social Network works so well.
Fincher's calculated style is fucking perfect for the movie about of sociopathic nerds and this subject matter is also one of the few things for which Aaron Sorkin's usually insufferable writing actually works. You genuinely believe these fucks would talk like that.
Returning to style, there are a lot of peculiar details that enhance the movie, like the twins being played by the same actor doubled with CGI instead of just hiring a couple of twin actors. The special effects are never noticeable but it's still uncanny because you recognize the actor and you're not used to basically seeing double of him. I think it wasn't just done because Fincher wanted a famous actor, Fincher is known for being obsessed with using CGI with things you don't really need CGI, I believe he was trying to achieve the uncanny feeling from two Armie Hammers on screen deliberately, the film is often pretty creepy in tone, reflecting how sociopathic most of these characters are.
