It's been a while since I've seen any movie fall off a cliff like this one. The second Aaron Taylor-Johnson disappears who was a great presence in the film, it goes from a damn-near 10/10 to an absolute dogshit pile that astounded me with how low it could go. Especially those guys in the ending. If you've seen it, you know exactly what I'm referring to.

Bottomline? Danny Boyle is senile and he should go check himself in a retirement home. What an embarrassing twilight years entry. Isn't the contrast between the trailer and movie astounding? One of the greatest movie trailers of all time, the unnerving oppressive tone and how it builds is incredible. I didn't like the ending either (both because it's a bit daft without being funny enough to be worth it, and because it firmly places the film in "part 1 syndrome" territory) but I did like the movie overall. I'm surprised at /tv/'s reaction actually.
The vaguely dreamlike/hallucinatory editing was making me worried because that can easily lead to lessened stakes or drift too close to "it's all a dream" territory, but it turned out to be well-handled and well-justified. I'm glad they just said "never mind that" about the 28 Weeks ending. A swede showing up with an iphone was good stuff and there's scope for a lot more interaction with the uninfected world.

I know it's all opinion, but I just got back from watching 28 Years Later and I loved it. I thought it was fantastic. It's one of the very few movies that emotionally affected me. Not to say I cried, but I definitely had that lump in my throat when Spike learned what was really happening to his mother. And absolutely everything with Ralph Fiennes character was just amazing in general. Like genuinely it's one of the hardest lessons we have to learn, that death is a part of life. The film put an almost beauty to death in a way. And Spike learning these lessons is what finally made him his own man. Fucking amazing shit.

Pity about that absolutely baffling ending, with the gymnastic style blondes back flipping and all that weird shite. That was fucking stupid. But for a 2 hour movie, and to say the last like 2 minutes are wank? Still loved it overall. 8.5/10

The moments where it sucks is the shock value and rape and slaughter, but there's moments in the comic where it focuses on the people, and those rare sparks of humanity as we try to keep on fighting and living, and it really works. The moment crossing the Rockies, or running off the cliff, or moments of sacrifice and heroism. I'd argue it has more depth than The Boys, which seeps with spite at the superhero genre.
