The film had everything going for it. Bond gets threatened by the world's greatest assassin so he's pulled off active duty until the threat has been dealt with, including M's implied permission to kill him first. What an awesome set up. The film should have then been a cat and mouse chase around the world with them barely making it out of every alive until the final showdown.
Instead, the threat was a fakeout by some random roastie and Scaramanga is just out to steal some solar power chip and Bond accidentally stumbles in on it. What a waste of Christopher Lee.
