I don't know if it was because of him, but I definitely preferred the first two seasons

I actually liked a straight man who kind of thought everyone was being a weirdo. I guess that's too similar to Jim from The Office though.

It's pretty funny that the actor quit and they completely erased his existence from the show. Later in the series Leslie is talking about everyone she dated and they don't mention him at all.

It became a less "challenging" form of humor
I wouldn't say it was that much better, but Andy & April put the show on easy mode
And by the end they completely fucked Mark's character anyway

There's specifically a part where Ann has boxes of her old boyfriends' crap that she's selling or something, and there's not one for Mark

Mark was a garbage character and the first season of the show is the worst part. Trying way too hard to copy the office at first with Mark as the Jim replacement but it just didn't work at all. When he left and the new characters were added the show went from being a poor man's office to being it's own show, at least.

The show lost it's cynical edge after that. They ended up making it Obama era wish fulfillment for liberal governance fetishists.

I think the pilot was the most obvious of being a blatant ripoff but it calmed down after that. Mark was boring for being Jim but I also liked the idea that he was known as being a huge slut and sleeping with tons of women

yeah, his band is pretty decent so it makes since that he could skate through being a slacker asshole in a small town and have someone like Ann on the hook, especially because Ann is consistently kind of stupid throughout the show
That's a way more interesting character than the guy who gave himself a concussion because he sneezed while he was close to a wall

i hated the office and i hated this show even more which seemed to take the office's premise of bureaucratic dysfunction, shot in the form of a documentary, and add a lot more emotional storylines.

When Mark left the facade of "documentary realism" was completely gone and now you're just watching a flanderised The Office. The worst part is that the viewer probably doesn't notice.

That shift from the first few office seasons into the trash that was it's final seasons is bizarre to watch.

I vote as pic related as way worse of a character than Mark ever was. every episode it felt the writers were struggling with why she was even there. she was never funny and her insisting to be friends with April was cringe sentimental writing

i actually enjoy how saccharine it is. none of their problems matter and they're one gigantic impossible friend group that has each other's backs in what is in my own experience with friends wildly unrealistic. it's almost a cartoon

there are two things that really, really started to fucking grate on me though
>7 straight seasons of shitting on garry
i did not find the "lead with emotional moment then undercut it with a dunk on the retard punching bag" thing funny. it just got extremely grating

all this led to was a very forced final season where it's like they tried to frantically undo all the inhumane torture garry has apparently put up with for like 30 fucking years. ALL of the cast seems much more like a bunch of cunts themselves when they attack him over and over again and episode after episode you really do wonder why he's even there, it just becomes a predictable waste of time and a cheap punchline

>le town is full of barely functional retards joke... again
do we REALLLLYYYY need our 50th fucking town hall/public forum/yada yada scene where everybody but the main cast is completely fucking pants on head drooling on yourself retarded? please? okay we get it the average hick in shitfuck nowhere probably ain't too smarts in the headums. THANK YOU. HOLY FUCK. it's like how animes will do that "all the background characters that don't matter are grey and wearing boring business clothes" bit but the exact opposite, and all the background characters are this obnoxious caricatures that literally never let up.

it becomes really frustrating to get to the stock standard "leslie needs/wants something but has to convince.... LE PEOPLE" scene, AGAIN, and you're guaranteed to spend the next 5 minutes watching extras stand up and make fools of themselves. WHOA, HE LIKE, SAID SOMETHING TOTALLY DUMB AND NOT RELATED TO THE ISSUE! WHOA, THEY SUDDENLY ALL HATE HER FOR THE 50TH TIME! THIS IS CRAAZZYYY!!!

so yeah other than that 8/10 show

it also felt like they used the same hacky trope with this other guy in the show, even though The Office beat it into the ground with Michael hating Toby

i am the polar opposite of garry, it's faggots like you that sit low on every social totem pole you exist in so like a duplicitous rat you try to attack the people you view as beneath you. i have never done that and will never do that to anybody and so i can't abide by watching dozens of hours of characters do it while they also have some bleeding heart moment and a group hug about how much they all love each other - it's a really weird, mean spirited head fuck. you sound a like a piece of shit frankly and i'm almost certain i could break you in half
