Half of these aren't true or completely misconstrued, only real one is Jonathan Nolan and even that was informal. The rest are nowhere near being considered and have not had meetings of any kind. Especially egregious are Paul King and Villeneuve. David Leitch is still the top choice because they want to pair him with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who both have a good working relationship. Remember, he's the next Bond and not anyone else ("reputable" news outlets are flat-out fabricating) and they also have Drew Pearce working on the script. October 2025 start date with a May 27, 2027 release.

What's holding things up from any official announcements are David Leitch's availability. He already has How To Rob A Bank in pre-production and is bound to that movie but wants badly to direct Bond 26 with Aaron. But Amazon MGM doesn't want to wait until he finishes shooting that movie and wants to start shooting Bond 26 by October which isn't feasible. Their second and third options include Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Meg 2) and Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry, Nobody) but they want to see if they can squeeze Leitch in.

Aaron is cast, that's a 100% percent done. The problem is that he also wants a say in the director and prefers Leitch but could sour if they aren't able to work the schedules out.

Drew Pearce's two drafts thus far have incorporated a lot of elements from his work on the Mission: Impossible series. There's a lot of location-hopping, Bond has some supporting characters that form a "team" of sorts around him and there's an emphasis on stunts. Bond's characterization is very different from anything that has come before. He goes off-grid and participates in illegal underground MMA matches to gather underworld intel. There's three Bond girls and the villain group is very reminiscent of the villains in the fifth and six Mission movies. The aim is to clearly ape the M:I films and John Wick given the emphasis on gunplay and the frequency of the action. Also, there's a reference to Bond being in Afghanistan as a soldier.

To continue on the M:I influence, there's a central MacGuffin which is the bread and butter of those movies. Rabbit's foot is the most obvious example. There's clear and deliberate influence from the John Gardner and Raymond Benson continuity books such as a nuclear extremist cult who's leader uses hypnosis to some degree when the plot needs it, there's also a vengeful Bond girl ala Melina from For Your Eyes Only who's Bond's way in to the organization and has a similar role to Ilsa Faust. I suspect and expect the M:I-inspired elements to be toned down later on because they're very protruding and obvious to anyone who has any familiarity with that series.

The film touches upon the distrust of citizens towards government and secret services , AI (albeit lightly), nuclear fears (it plays into the MacGuffin) and how tech cabals control governments though not explicitly. Amazon MGM wants a crowd-pleaser at all costs.

You know, given the current state of things in the world, I'm not in the mood for a movie like this.

Amazon MGM recently put Bond 26 (though listed as untitled, obviously) on a May 27, 2027 release date, the aim being that they want Bond to be a prime summer movie release now after the Marvel movies in that slate moved. They also plan a very exhuburant marketing campaign for that window. Aston Martin and Omega plan for new releases during that time.
