That's a nice scene although I have to say the acting feels a little off by Rickman. Now that you brought it up that's probably the only scene where acting is not on point in my opinion.

Indeed. My brother disagrees, insisting that Al finally dropping Karl in the end is contrived and melodramatic. I can understand his point, but I disagree. It's such a nice, wholesome bookend to the movie; Al redeeming himself and overcoming his fear of drawing his gun. Just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, a true Christmas miracle.
