hadn't regularly watched the show for like five years before the movie came out. I remember thinking the movie was better than I remember the show being around the time I stopped caring about it but I still thought it just wasn't very good.

the simpsons as a concept was kinda hopelessly adrift by that point anyway, the show was made to make fun of the safe sterile 80s/early 90s family sitcom but came to become more mainstream than those sitcoms had ever been. it had been a zombie soulless product for almost a decade before the movie anyway. I remember thinking the movie was a good point to end the show and maybe fox would let it die but here we are, almost twenty years later, and it still exists for some reason.
