Why has nobody ever tried to top this? Did Hollywood just collectively decide to throw in the towel after 2003? It's objectively the all time peak of cinema and it doesn't look like it's ever going to be surpassed.

These movies were a MASSIVE gamble. Remember, they literally took several years to make. These movie are the result of EFFORT over a long time

People shit on Sean Connery not taking the role of Gandalf, but forget that he would've had to live like 2-3 years on the other side of the planet. Yeah the movies are kickass, but I can understand where he came from.

They tried with the Rings of Power. Genuinely honestly tried with the biggest budget of any show, fucking, ever. Endless possibilities, anything and everything they could dream of making, whatever location they desired, all of it.

They just couldn't get over their own hubris.
