Idk if as a kid I simply didn't notice it or what, but its just repulsive. Not to mention 90 percent of the time is cheap shock value. Like a 5 year old screaming poopybutt in order to get attention.

Christ I swear some people completely forget what it was like to be a child.
Part of the fun and intrigue of movies was that were sometimes a bit edgy and might show stuff that you wouldn't normally be allowed to see. Maybe a naughty word here, a splash of blood there... there was a kind of nervous energy to it.
Also hell and damn are not swear words.

I will admit that shit seems to have fallen down the swear hierarchy in the past 10 years or so. It used to be firmly in a tier above piss/ass but it's routinely in green band trailers now.

There's this YouTube video I once had saved, desperately want to find it again. It was this Finnish(?) children's TV show, apparently scifi themed. They had a character who's schtick was that he was "American", played by a full grown black guy. All the other MCs were children. And his catchphrase was shouting "Awww shit!"
It was fucking hilarious. These little kids in space helmets going "ik bok kre kre" or whatever in Finnish, and then a cartoon alien pops out and this large black man shouts "AWWWW SHIT!"
I don't think the showrunners knew it was a bad word in English. I would be eternally grateful if I could find that again.
