Honestly you don't even need a window unit. Get one of those portable units that has a little exhaust hose that points out the window. You basically have it cracked 6" inches and just wedge it in there so it doesn't come back in your room.
Its not going to make your place an igloo, but comfortable enough to keep yourself from sweating through your sheets at night. Most of them switch from a cooler to a heater (nice ones will dehumidify too) so you can put it in a closet and forget about it until the few weeks a year it gets too hot or cold.
They're relatively inexpensive. My AC went out during a texas heatwave along with everyone else, so I had to do fucking something because it was 95 degrees inside my house.
