I like Alien 3 as an ending to the franchise. The problem is they want more Alien movies and feel like the only way to do that is making a bunch of prequels until Weaver dies and they can make a remake or proper reboot.

>rewrite story to be a back to basics story like the first film but without the sigourney and the others
>sigourney's schedule opens up and demands to be in the film
>rewrite the story a third time so her being there makes sense

it's a pretty bad film that is only marginally better with the bull cut, would've been at least 10 times better had sigourney not been available

Really was dumb. And Predator 2 showed how to do a good sequel right. It's not some hard requirement to always bring back the protagonist for the next one. Set it in a new place with new cast and it can be just as fun. The mystery of the Predator/Alien is gone so it will always be lesser.

They keep making movies because they're teasing the thing they know everyone actually wants: xenomorphs getting to Earth and spreading into an apocalypse with colonial marines blasting everything. Neill Blomkamp was finally going to make it but Ridley squashed it. Now they're making a shitty tv show set on Earth instead

Basically, Aliens made a lot of money, so they knew they wanted to make a sequel and make more money, but they spent years kicking around ideas and making no progress on production before deciding to stop dragging their heels and shit something, anything, out. It was a doomed, passionless exercise of pure greed.

And Newt. No reason not to acknowledge that it was just a hypersleep nightmare and make the real Alien3 at this point. The movie already messed with the estlabished lore and used magical events to justify itself. Two eggs appeared out of nowhere. The ships suddenly travel ridiculously fast getting to places in days rather than months. Everyone wants to see the time period of the marines again, but they just refuse for no reason.
