It's not nonsense reasons. It's a tragedy. They had enough resources at the start to stop it, but they literally couldn't stop playing the game of thrones. It's a badly written book and a horrible TV show. Don't worry about it.

The live action nature of the show necessitated spending too much time focusing on the White Walkers, then normalfags ate up Hardhome like it was the second coming of Christ so D&D ramped up the zombieshit even more
